Zespo is a Chicago-based artist who works primarily in painting. He received an MFA from the University of Chicago (2018) and a BFA from the American Academy of Art College in Chicago (2014). He has exhibited his work in solo and two-person exhibitions at Pueblo Unido Gallery at Centro Romero (Chicago, IL, 2025), the independent artist-run space Cuarto de Servicio (CDMX, México, 2024), and the Denison Art Space in Newark (Newark, OH, 2018). His work has been recognized by grants, fellowships, and juried exhibitions including the 2018 Ground Floor exhibition at the Hyde Park Art Center, the 3Arts Make A Wave grant, and a residency at the Oxbow School of Art. In addition, Zespo serves as Artistic Director for the Lit & Luz Festival, facilitating cultural exchanges and collaborations between Chicago and Mexico, and as Program Administrator for the Open Practice Committee, the visiting artist program of the Department of Visual Arts at the University of Chicago.
